The Spanish curriculum evolves from the school’s R.I.C.E. philosophy which promotes learning in a shared responsibility model, empowering students to understand and appreciate cultural diversity and is developed within the framework promoted by the American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages (ACTFL).
The curriculum advances from Stepping Stones into Montessori (ages 2-4) through the eighth grade. Each level incorporates and explores the following educational strands:
Real World Application
Grade appropriate activities and student centered learning experiences explore the art, music, culture, history, and geography of Spanish speaking countries. In our younger grades, picture books in Spanish and familiar read-alouds enhance the learning experience. Grade 3 uses the text Practicamos Español and grade 4 uses Hablamos Español each assembled by the Spanish teachers.
