The Social Studies curriculum at Ancillae-Assumpta Academy takes its direction from the NCSS, which advocates “diversity, global interconnectedness, and intellectual excellence.” Our goal is to develop students who are informed, socially aware, and able to approach diversity with a global perspective. Our R.I.C.E. Philosophy is instrumental in the Social Studies curriculum.
With the use of interactive technology, literature, and media sources, grade-level themes are integrated into the curriculum. Grades K to 8 experience developmentally appropriate instruction in the disciplines of sociology, economics, government, history, and geography.
Students in Grades 1, 2, and 3 use the Social Studies Alive! Series and Nystrom Exploring Where & Why materials. Students in Grades 1- 4 create theme-based projects and discuss current events with the use of supplemental resources such as Time for Kids and Scholastic Magazine.
