Art Instruction

Ancillae’s team of warm and experienced professionals – paired with an open, inviting art floor and state-of-the-art tools – offers a dynamic and creative curriculum to allow our students to experience new approaches, create, and learn!

From a young age, Ancillae students are exposed to a wide range of art appreciation and history, art theory, and various types of media. In the lower grades, students build upon their fine-motor development skills, as well as hand-eye coordination, while expressing their imaginations in their art creations.  Students explore ceramics, drawing, painting and textile arts. Ancillae’s middle school students work on more detailed projects using all the skills accumulated throughout their years in the diverse curriculum including textiles, ceramics, painting, drawing, printmaking, digital art and photography.

Ancillae’s visual arts education program is designed to teach students the value of understanding a visual language, which encourages communication through self-expression and creativity.

As part of its mission, Ancillae is committed to educating students to become creative problem solvers. Through dynamic art experiences, which not only reinforce the elements and principles of art and design, students develop critical thinking skills and increased self-confidence.

A Tradition Built on Love

Spring Show

Ancillae has long believed that the performing, creative, and visual arts provide children with meaningful learning experiences that connect their bodies, hearts, and minds. Sr. Elizabeth McCoy, the Academy’s first Principal and Director, was a big proponent of “talent education”. She knew that a fine arts education helps develop an appreciation of beauty, gives a sense of purpose to life, and offers the opportunity and discipline of acquiring new skills.

"Practicing/performing music is working on emotional intelligence. It's making the brain more flexible and dynamic; it's structurally changing our nerves and neurological pathways to handle unique and varied information. To me, it's simply the best developmental tool for young brains there is. Not because it's difficult, but because it's abstract."Ancillae Fine Arts Teacher
