Middle School

Moving into fifth through eighth grade, we equip students with boldness and a sense of
their true selves as they form the next generation of creators, thinkers and leaders who go on to do great things.

As they prepare to move into high school, we develop informed, socially aware, civically engaged young people who are ready to serve while continuing their academic and emotional development.

"I love building students' confidence in math. When teaching challenging math concepts, I love when students let their guard down and are willing to try even if they do not feel confident. I love the moments when students get it, and I love challenging the students who always get it!"Ancillae Teacher

Highlights

Electives

Part of our leading-edge curriculum includes student choice and agency in their learning with elective offerings for grades 6-8 which allow students to pursue personal interests. Our program includes both core and general electives. Core electives include Public Speaking in 6th grade, Financial Fitness in 7th grade, and Career Exploration in 8th grade. Our general elective offerings include a diverse set of options, such as Chess, Media 101, Theater, Brain Busters, Volleyball, Wellness Warriors, Philly Sports History, Set and Scenery Design, Ultimate Frisbee, Food Truck Frenzy, and more!

Advisory

The Advisory Program is designed to assist students in gaining essential academic, social, and life competencies. The program is based on the belief that students need the opportunity to develop relationships with adult educators who act as guides and advocates for the students and can offer support in difficult social or academic situations. Further, the advisory program offers guidance for students during adolescence and fosters the development of self-esteem and resiliency. Students in grades six, seven, and eight, meet in small groups regularly with a faculty or staff advisor.

Forensics

A very popular co-curricular activity at Ancillae is Forensics, which is competitive public speaking. The program builds self-confidence and camaraderie among team members while developing creativity and teaching life-long communication skills. The sixth through eighth grade students prepare and compete in the categories of Declamation, Dramatic Interpretation, Duo, Original Oratory, Poetry, and Prose as they learn the art of informing, persuading, and entertaining listeners in a thoughtful way.
