Lower School

As students enter first through fourth grade, we deepen the Love of learning while developing students who are whole-hearted, skilled and collaborative.

Here, students find a supportive environment that equips them to succeed while offering them safe space to fail, while building inner reserves of resilience for their academic, social and emotional lives.

"It's amazing to see the development of every child, their unique personalities and characters. I love creating a safe and happy place for them where they can explore their potential. A place where they can understand that there are no limits if you put your mind and effort in what you love doing."Ancillae Teacher

Highlights

On Stage

All students beginning in first grade have multiple opportunities to perform at Ancillae.  Students in the Lower School participate in both a Christmas Performance and our annual Spring Show. Many also opt for private music lessons in our extra-curricular program and participate in recitals twice a year. Being on stage consistently from a young age helps students develop confidence and poise.

Class Meetings

Class Meeting is a time set aside from academics to address topics associated with social emotional learning topics. Friendships and interpersonal experiences are shared and discussed in an effort to build community among the students in the classroom. The homeroom teacher directs the discussion to promote acceptance, inclusivity and respect for each student.

Fundations

Fundations is a part of the Wilson Language Training program, grounded in the Science of Reading, to help students establish a foundation for reading, spelling, and handwriting. Fundations is structured to make learning to read fun while laying the groundwork for lifelong literacy. Students in grades 1 and 2 have whole-group Fundations instruction every day while identified students in grades 3 and 4 have small group pull-out instruction periods.
