Mission and History

Love in Action

Ancillae-Assumpta Academy operates under a vision set out by our founders, the Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus: To grow the world’s capacity for embracing God’s unconditional Love while living in wholeness, peace and reconciliation.

We fulfill this vision through our mission: To Educate All With Love and For Love.

We do so by:

  • Nurturing faith development
  • Approaching the world with hope and hospitality
  • Reverencing creation
  • Celebrating diversity
  • Siding with the poor
  • Acting as a spark for building community
  • Openly sharing all that we are

Through our vision and mission, all members of the Ancillae community are making a difference. We are an award-winning school. We take care with how we teach, mentor, coach and feed — yes, feed — our young people. Those who study with us from early childhood through eighth grade go on to become next-generation creators, thinkers, and leaders.

To meet this rigorous path we've laid out for ourselves, we dedicate all our resources: a liberating theology, quality teachers, structural know-how, a constantly evolving curriculum, critical teaching and thinking skills.

Our Educational Philosophy: R.I.C.E.

In a spirit of hope, we share Responsibility, work Interdependently, think Creatively, and promote the Empowerment of people (RICE). RICE is the lens through which we
engage in strategic planning as an institution and ensure that Love in action carries us into our future. We mention it often and it operates in the background of all we do.

A Legacy of Love and Leadership

The kernel of our current mission, Educating with Love and For Love, began in 1946 among a local installment of the Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, an international community of Roman Catholic Sisters of all ages, races, and cultural backgrounds.

Together, they began offering kindergarten classes to the community at 2025 Church Road in 1946.
