Summer is a fantastic time to relax and read.  Find your incoming grade level below, read the information, review the Summer Reading List and download the Summer Reading Document to complete your assignment.

Grades 1 & 2 Summer Reading


Summer is a fabulous time to relax and read. This summer’s reading list encourages you to do just that with many terrific titles.

For your summer assignment:

1. Read four or more books on the Grades 1 & 2 Summer Reading List .

2. Choose one of the books you have read from the Reading List.

3. Illustrate a scene from that book on the inside of this paper.

4. Bring your drawing to school in September.  You will use it for a class assignment.

Grades 3 & 4 Summer Reading

This summer’s reading list encourages you to do just that with the theme of “Pick a Pair.”  This year the books have been paired by theme, genre, or author. Select pairs of books that interest you. As you read, make connections between characters, settings, themes, plots, or writing styles of the two books.

For your summer assignment:

1. Choose one of the pairs of books you have read this summer from the Grades 3 & 4 Summer Reading List .

2. Complete the graphic organizer on the inside of this paper comparing characters, settings, or themes from the books.

3. Bring the graphic organizer to school in September. You will use it for a class assignment.

For your summer assignment:

1. Choose one character from each of the two required reading novels. On the character analysis chart, write down five characteristics that describe the character you have chosen. Cite specific evidence of those characteristics from the novel.

2. Once you have analyzed one character from each book, use the similarities and differences web to compare and contrast those two characters. Do those characters share similar characteristics? How are those characters different?

3. Once you have compared and contrasted two characters, choose one other literary element to compare and contrast. That is, using the web, compare and contrast one of the following elements from each book:  setting, themes, turning points, plot, or writing styles.
