Montessori Kindergarten
The Kindergarten program brings to life the Montessori philosophy in carefully prepared environments to nurture the growth of each individual child. Concrete hands-on experiences challenge the child’s natural curiosity to learn and explore while fostering the development of the whole child. The structure of the room and the sequence of materials support the child’s desire for independence and the developing sense of order and concentration. Respect for and care of all things is central to our classroom community.
The Montessori curriculum is designed to meet the individual pace of development of each child. It recognizes the importance of multi sensory hands-on learning in a well prepared environment to meet the innate need children have for independence. Lessons are presented in individual and group lessons in a way that strengthens the child's sense of order. The curriculum supports the development of social skills through teaching respect and care for the materials and the work of others.
As the child advances through the sequence of materials the child’s concentration is lengthened and challenged. Self confidence grows with each new discovery providing a foundation for future learning.

Special Features
Religious education in the Montessori unit is provided through weekly lessons as well as integrated throughout our daily activities. Children’s spirituality is nurtured through the awareness of God as we discover in his creations of nature. Jesus’ messages of love and community guide us in our relationships to show respect, compassion, generosity, and peace with our classmates, teachers and environment. It is through this that we connect with the mission of the Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Religion lessons are enriched through prayer, songs, and visits to chapel.
The Montessori curriculum is enriched by weekly specialty classes for art, music, Spanish, gym and library. Kindergarten enrichment classes include religion, science, social studies, Spanish/sign, movement/yoga, Handwriting Without Tears, and Second Step social skills.
