12/1/17 Children enjoyed the dress rehearsal for the Graders Christmas Concert this Friday afternoon. Hope to see many of you at the Christmas bazaar  and Breakfast with Santa this weekend.

Wednesday, December 6th is the feast day of  Saint Nicholas.  It is a tradition in our Montessori unit for the children to put our their slippers or shoes to see if St. Nick will visit with a special surprise.  The children will hear about St. Nicholas and how this special caring Bishop came to be known as Santa Claus.

Montessori Mitten Service Project

Montessori Mittens

A Christmas tradition in our Montessori Unit is to decorate our tree with mittens donated by our children.  This year, we will connect with the Sisters by decorating the tree in the Sacred Heart Center chapel.  Children will visit the chapel to hang their mittens on the tree and say a short prayer for the child who will receive the mittens. It is a simple gesture of service that will resonate with our youngest students who know the joy of wearing a new pair of mittens. We have seen the excitement of several students wearing their newmittens in anticipation of winter. It is never too early to teach the gift of giving with a hands-on experience personal to your child. Each child is invited to bring in a pair of child-sized mittens/gloves to hang on our Christmas tree. If each Montessori child and teacher brings in just one pair, there will be 150 pairs of mittens to warm the hands and hearts of children in need in our local area. Please send what you can. Mittens will be donated to Cradles to Crayons.  Donations will be accepted until December 18th.  Thank you for helping us teach the meaning of Christmas through this small act of kindness.

Pass It On

Love

At school we pass it on by: respecting each other by taking turns, by saying "Good morning" when we come to school, by learning about God's love, by doing acts of kindness as our gifts for Baby Jesus, by having Advent prayer services in chapel with all our Montessori friends, by preparing Christmas celebrations to share with our families by donating mittens to children in need

At home we pass it on by:  baking Christmas cookies to give to a friend, relative or neighbor, giving our family members a hug and kiss with a big "I love you", by sharing with my brothers and sisters,  by sharing family traditions at Christmas, involving your child in buying items for a family in need or donating to a charity at Christmas time
