Since January, the 5th grade students have been learning about the geography, history, and culture of the United States. As part of their study on the United States, students learned about the locations of the states, their capitals, abbreviations, and nicknames. They also learned about the major landforms and landmarks in each region. Students viewed and sang along with the video, States and Capitals Songs, and used websites such as sheppardsoftware.com and sporcle.com to reinforce the skills and concepts taught in class. As a culminating activity, students created t-shirts using the Photo Booth and Word programs to put their face on one of three monuments, the Statue of Liberty, Mount Rushmore, or the Lincoln Memorial.
