A Day in the Life

STEPPING STONES INTO MONTESSORI (SSM)

7:45-8:10 Arrival: Children are greeted at the doors of the SSM Lobby.  Tote bags are checked for messages.  Children are invited to do morning activities while waiting for classmates to arrive.

8:15-8:40 Morning Circle: Morning Circle includes discussions about the calendar, prayer, season, weather, and various themes and topics.

8:40-10:00  Work Time: Children make work choices from the shelves in the areas of Practical Life, Sensorial, Math, Language, and Science.  Individual and small group lessons provide guidance to challenge each child and promote the development of new skills.  Free choice allows the children time to develop social skills through developmentally appropriate choices.

10:00-10:30 Whole and Small Group Lessons: Introductions to themes and topics are given at this point in our morning.  The children are taught in both whole and small group settings.  During this time we read books, make art projects, and introduce new choices.  Activities are geared to developing fine and gross motor skills.  The children are encouraged to share ideas and thoughts on the topic we are discussing.  Part of our morning schedule includes time for Music, Spanish, and Gym.

10:30-10:45 Snack: Snack is provided by Ancillae Assumpta Academy

10:45-11:15 Outside Play: Children are given time to have fun and explore on the playground equipment.

11:20-12:00 Lunch:  Lunch is provided by Ancillae-Assumpta Academy.

12:00-12:20 Circle Time:  Children gather to review their morning and prepare for dismissal.

12:30 Dismissal: Dismissal is in the Stepping Stones into Montessori's classroom.

SSM also offers a rest time extension for families needing a full day of care.  Children may extend the day until 3:00 p.m. with dismissal at the Sacred Heart Center Ramp or continue into our Extended Day Program until 5:45 p.m.

 

PRESCHOOL

7:45-8:10 Arrivals and Activities:  Children are greeted at the cubby area with a handshake.  Tote bags are checked for messages.  After hanging their totes in their cubbies, the children are invited to do morning activities while waiting for classmates to arrive.

8:10-8:30 Cluster Time:  Children gather with their cluster teacher in saying the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer to start our school day.  Cluster activities may include daily news, calendar, stories, poems, songs, Spanish, show and tell, themed discussions and group lessons.

8:30-10:40 Work Time:  Children make work choices from the shelves in the areas of Language, Math, Sensorial, Practical Life, Culture, Science, Art, and Religion. Individual and small group lessons provide guidance to challenge each child and promote the development of new skills.   Free choice allows the children time to develop social skills through developmentally appropriate choices.  Part of our morning schedule includes time for Art Appreciation, Music, Spanish, and Gym.

10:40-11:00 Cluster time:  Children gather to end their morning of work followed by the start of recess.

11:00-12:30 Lunch/Recess time:  Lunch is provided by Ancillae-Assumpta Academy.  Two groups rotate time for lunch in the classroom and recess on the Regli playground.

12:30-12:45 Afternoon Transition:  Half day children are dismissed. Children staying full day prepare for afternoon activities or rest with stories and songs.

1:00-2:40 Afternoon Enrichment:  Children not resting continue to work in the areas of the Montessori environment.  Group lessons and special projects extend the curriculum.  Handwriting Without Tears, Second Step Social Skills currciulum, and computer are presented in the afternoon.

2:40-3:00 Clean-up and Cluster Time:  To end our day, children gather with their cluster to review the day and prepare for dismissal.

KINDERGARTEN

7:45-8:10 Arrivals and Activities:  Children are greeted at the door with a handshake.  Tote bags are checked for messages.  After hanging their totes in their cubbies, the children go upstairs to meet their cluster teacher and begin the day's activities.

8:10-11:15 Work Time:  Each cluster follows a schedule that allows time in each of the area rooms.   Children will make work choices in the areas of math, language, culture and computer.  Individual and small group lessons provide guidance to challenge the individual child and promote the development of new skills in each area.  Part of our morning schedule includes time for art appreciation, music, Spanish, gym, and library. 

11:15-12:30 Lunch/Recess time:  Kindergarten eats lunch in the Student Dining Room with the cluster teachers. Lunch is followed by recess time on the Regli Playground. 

12:30-2:40 Afternoon Enrichment:  Children continue their schedule in rotating through areas of the Kindergarten environment.  Included in this schedule is a visit to the computer room providing for further enrichment in writing skills and language development.  Other group enrichment classes included in the curriculum are Religion, Spanish, sign language, yoga, Handwriting Without Tears, and Second Step.

2:40-3:00 Clean-up and Cluster Time:  To end our day, children gather with their cluster to review the day and prepare for dismissal.
